Mid-Year Review

I can’t believe we’re halfway through 2013.

Everyone says time speeds up when you’re older, which is so true,
but for me certain portions have slowed down.
I take the time to appreciate things I took for granted in my teenage years.
It doesn’t take fancy events to keep me entertained;
sitting by the garden talking to Brett while he pulls weeds, brings me so much joy.
I appreciate minimalism & simplicity on a whole new level,
which in turn gives me more meaningful time.
Throughout the day I force myself to stop and listen,
take a deep breath and remember I’m living my journey …
and I only get one <3.

I still have so much room for improvement,
but I feel like my heart & soul are finally in a place where I can grow.
For so long, I felt like I was racing,
just to discover myself standing in the same exact spot.

Looking back on the first half of 2013 brings a smile to my face.
Pretty details to cherish and personal growth from life’s learning opportunities.
The remainder of 2013 brings upcoming trips, occasions
& soaking up the elements in between.

Thank you so much for reading my ramblings – have a charming weekend <3.

Father’s Day

I’m a little behind on blogging …

We broke in our new deck with a Father’s Day BBQ,
I had a small break through with my house not being in perfect order when we had everyone over.
Cabo clothes were hanging throughout the house, but everyone ducked under them
and still had a great time.

This has been a year of balancing out my stress.
85% of my anxiety I bring on myself with crazy “what if” questions I fabricate.
Mini moments are sometimes lost, because I’m battling myself.
I can’t be cured overnight, but I’m working on becoming more comfortable in my own skin,
in all aspects of my life!

Menu Monday

Soooo hubby signed up for a “get healthy” program at work.
They provided him with a step counter & this nifty little informative plate (:

Seriously, how small are these portions! Pretty sure I need to cut my food intake pronto ):
I made the below receipt to fill our new plate.

*** *** ***

1 pound of peeled and deveined shrimp
¼ teaspoon kosher salt
 ¼ teaspoon black pepper
 4 cups broccoli florets
 1 Tablespoon olive oil
1 Tablespoon red onion, finely chopped
1 inch of ginger, peeled and grated to yield 1 teaspoon
 Zest of 1 orange
1 cup fresh squeezed orange juice
1 Tablespoon raw honey
1 clove garlic, minced or pressed
 Pinch of black pepper

 1. Season shrimp with salt & pepper and set aside

 2. Steam the broccoli in a covered saucepan with a small amount of water and set aside

 3. Heat a large, nonstick skillet over medium heat and add in oil

4. Once oil is hot add …
shrimp, onions, ginger, orange juice & zest, honey, garlic and salt & pepper

5. Stir to combine and cook until the sauce is slightly thickened

 6. Add the cooked broccoli and stir to combine.
Cook until the broccoli is tender

Serve with brown rice <3.

God’s Inserts.

Sometimes you’re just going about your life & God will insert a messenger in your life.
Most of the time this person doesn’t even realize their doing the work of the Lord,
but something they say or do sticks to your heart like glue & you can feel your faith growing inside and out.

I encountered 3 messengers in the same week.
These blessings stood out to me, because all their names were Debbie.

Debbie#1 & her husband retired in Cabo, but her other half was in the states not doing very well in the hospital.
She was flying to Cabo to retrieve her doggie babies, just to turn around and fly back to her sick husband.
We talked the entire flight and shared pictures of our favorite people.
Debbie#1 taught me that no matter what challenges we’re facing in our lives, we still need to be kind to others.
This sweet woman is going through a very hard obstacle in her life,
but she still took the time to brighten a women going on vacations day!
What a lovely, selfless example of Christ <3.

Picture 069Debbie#1 made me this rose with her United napkin
& gave me her contact information incase Brett & I ever wanted to stay at their home in Cabo!
What a beautiful lady – inside & out <3.

God wasn’t done with me in Cabo, He made Debbie#2 and I’s paths cross one evening at dinner.
Brett & I instantly hit it off with Debbie#2 and her husband …
such an enjoyable couple & our conversation flowed like we were childhood friends.
Debbie#2 and I discussed some deep topics about moms, which brought so much comfort to my heart.
The next day the concierge brought me a book with a note inside & a business card from Debbie#2!
I’ve already e-mailed her & look forward to our long distance friendship (:
Debbie#2 taught me that sharing your obstacles you haven’t overcome or you’re still recovering from,
can really help others in their journey.
Also, talking about your brokenness keeps things in perspective, makes you humble & helps you heal.
Debbie#2 gave me a great gift by telling me her story – it soothed some fears I’ve been battling <3.

I returned from vacation to find another blessing at work, from my absolute favorite Debbie (:
Now Debbie#3  is my work mom & truly an amazing woman!
My sweet friend gifted me a beautiful bracelet, a present from her mom, that I complimented on her the previous week.
I told her I couldn’t possibly take such a treasure,
but she went on to tell me how she’s been reading a book by Joyce Meyer
that states it’s easy for us to give away things we don’t want/need anymore,
but a true gift is something you give that you still cherish.
I swear God was speaking directly to my very being through her words.
Brett & I have been on this journey to live more simple,
but I can think of so much “stuff” I hang onto for all the wrong reasons.
My new arm decor holds a priceless message.
It’s a reminder that there isn’t any “stuff” in the world worth more than a human beings smile
or that uplifting feeling when you know your friendship is truly valued <3.
My eyes filled up with tears when Debbie #3 walked away –
what a thoughtful gesture & testimony to brighten someone’s day (:

Picture 071

This whole experience made me stop and think,
how many messengers does God send my way?
I only caught these because of the name coincidence.
I’m realizing that I’ve slowed down to enjoy a pretty flower & capture little details throughout my day,
but all of that is on the outside.
God is telling me to dig deep and not forget about arranging, decluttering and cleaning up the inside too.

In the Bible, Deborah was a Prophetess and a Judge in Israel.
Deborah successfully guided Barak,
he in turn conquered Sisera and delivered Israel from the oppression of the Canaanite King.
Deborah helped bring a great victory for God’s people.

Even though I’m just one person, my 3 Debbie’s came together without even knowing it and watered my faith,
and to me that’s another victory for the Lord.
My prayer is that you take something small from this blog post;
that you didn’t have before you read it <3.

I’m thankful for my graceful Teacher & His messengers.

God bless,

Garden Lunch

A: I can’t find the salad; did you buy any at the grocery store?
B: nope
A: why not?
B: because …
A: I told you I was being good this week and eating salad
B: maybe we should go check the garden (:

That was like music to my ears!
I have to be honest.
Brett does all the work in the garden.
I sure do enjoy reaping the benefits of all his hard work (:
Thank you Brett <3.

SJ Diaries

Cabo San Lucas & San José had completely different vibes.
San José was more authentic – you instantly felt the Mexican culture.
The shops came in all different shapes & sizes …
some no bigger than your closet, others brighten entire street alleys!
We enjoyed strolling the quaint little sidewalks and visiting with the locals.
It was a relaxing afternoon taking in San José’s adorable charm.

blue waves.

Waking up and falling asleep to the sound of real ocean waves is something my sound machine just can’t capture.
You’d think listening to the ocean would be a repetitive sound, but each wave has its own soothing technique.
Every moment you listened to the salt water melt into the warm sand the more restful and clear you become.
It’s a peacefulness you can’t describe – it’s addicting <3.

pool days.

The pools overlooking the ocean were by far my favorite resort detail.
It was my first time in an infinity pool & I loved every second!
We relaxed under our beach umbrella, took naps & cooled off with tropical drinks.
The atmosphere was so peaceful, it was like breathing in calmness … wonderful gift from Him.
