Living small, but BIG.

I’ve been fascinated with tiny houses for several years, and even had the goal to live in one someday. However, my husband wasn’t 100% on board with the idea, so a small energy-efficient home is us meeting in the middle.

Shady (our camper) is little, but I love its cozy feeling. I kept thinking about the advantages to staying/living in a small dwelling.

Less Cleaning. I’m never overwhelmed by a mess when camping. I know it will take a max of 15 minutes to make the camper spotless.

Detailed Camper Cleaning  Includes:
washing dishes; putting dishes & clothes away; tidying/cleaning the countertops & eating area; organizing cabinets; cleaning the floors; making the bed; wiping down the bathroom; dusting everything – including the blinds/baseboards; neaten outside the camper; picking up trash & taking it out to the large trash bin.

Imagine never wasting a Saturday cleaning your home again. Our regular house is pretty small, but it still takes several hours to get spotless!

The Great Outdoors. You can’t help but get outside in nature when you’re staying/living in a small space. Even when camping in 100 degree weather, we’re still outside. It’s crazy how your body adapts to its surroundings when you allow it to experience them.

… and yes, it is a great movie (;

Healthy Choices. If you stock your small camper fridge & ice chest with healthy food choices, that’s what you’re going to eat! Not to mention, we do so much more walking – exercise!

I honestly believe when we’re home, we use going out to eat as an excuse to get out of the house. The house we just spent the day cleaning, organizing, etc. When camping we don’t spend our day doing chores, but doing things we enjoy – so we don’t have a reason to “escape” to fast food.

Saving $. When you don’t have a lot of space, you don’t feel the pressure to fill it with stuff. We made 2 trips to purchase ice & didn’t buy any extra items. Honestly, we don’t have room to store junk in the camper – so we don’t buy it (:

I’ve been de-cluttering our regular house for 2 years. The money, time & stress I wasted purchasing, organizing & cleaning stuff is depressing! Everyone wants a nice house, but make purchases that mean something to you – not just to fill an empty space.

Prayer/Meditation. Time always seems to slow down when I’m camping. I don’t have a schedule to keep, and having that moment to catch my breath is priceless. I can go on nature photography walks, have deep conversations with Brett, not feel rushed during my time with God & truly focus on what matters.

March 24, 2013

Yes, I’m alive.

I was going to give a February update, but March is almost over … WHAT! I haven’t even posted my New Year’s Resolutions?

Where is 2013 going?! Panic.

I have the most exciting news – I won a photography e-course, thanks to Tammy of RowdyKittens! This came at the PERFECT time, since hubby gifted me a new camera for Valentines day. I’m so excited and thankful to Tammy for this awesome opportunity!

I remember the first time I read RowdyKittens. I was sitting in my cubicle at work, reading Yahoo articles (like every morning before 9 a.m.) and this article was featured. I sent that link to everyone I knew & that evening went home and did my first declutter spree. Brett & I have been working hard to achieve the minimalist lifestyle ever since. We strive to not impulse purchase & invest our money/energy into experiences & memories … not clutter.

We aren’t perfect, and sometimes consumerism sucks us in & we’ll make a purchase we regret. But we learn and grow everyday! Not all of our family & friends are on board & think we’re crazy for saving for a Earthship. However, we do have some encouragers like Brett’s sister and brother-in-law who are living simple. In addition, to encouragement, Tara (my sister-in-law) has opened my eyes to the world of making my own natural (chemical-free) cleaners, laundry soap & personal products. They are even helping us grow a garden this year – so thankful for you two <3.

I hope everyone reading this post, will go visit RowdyKittens, with an open mind. Finding happiness in simplicity is so freeing and has even become a hobby for Brett and I. It’s been almost 2 years since I read her article, and we’re still working to achieve our minimalism goals. It doesn’t happen over night, but it’s a fun journey <3.

Also, take Tammy’s photography e-course with me – registration is open! Tammy takes beautiful photos, I’m so excited to learn her photography secrets <3.

Time Change – Boo!

Lately, I’ve been leaving work when it’s already dark; this is a serious issue for a lover of sunsets.

You can review my sunset obsession here & here!

I’ve decided to make the best of it … when I get to depart on time and catch a glimpse of the sun going to sleep – I snap sunset captures out my side mirrors … since I know the sun will be snoring by the time I get home <3.

Keep Smiling,

Weekend @ The Lake.

The only way to properly welcome an unexpected cool front …  take full advantage with a camping trip <3.

Adults (Dad, Pam-la, Brett & I) playing on a children’s playground was by far the funniest memory made. Going for walks, watching a sunset go all the way down & listening to good tunes were also treasured moments.

… night night sun <3.

… one of my favorite cloud days <3.

… it looked & felt like autumn <3.

… it’s hard to believe this was captured in August!

… my baby Winston …

… endless clouds <3.

… the playground – hasn’t changed a bit from when I was a kid (:

August 14, 2012

“Our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this planet. We all breathe the same air.” – John F. Kennedy

exquisite sunset hovering downtown <3.

The weekend zoomed by too quickly ):

Unfortunately, I wasn’t feeling 100%, but Brett made sure I got the best medicine available … fresh air. We took a late evening walk to rent some movies & pick up snacks. I figured the good light was asleep for the night, but luckily – I brought my camera (just maybe our doggie babies would do something cute), and spotted the tail end of a beautiful sunset floating over downtown <3.

I need fresh air when I’m not feeling well … sometimes Brett will take me for drives with the windows down so I can really breath. What makes you feel better when you’re in a funk?

August 9, 2012

Evening Stroll …

… track & field …

Brett and I went for a walk last night and the weather was PERFECT <3. We both kept commenting on how its been staying in the 100’s through 9:30 p.m. most nights! Winston and Gimli were ecstatic, we need to be better parents and take them more often.

The plan is to take full advantage of the cooler weather, we’re expected to get this weekend (;

Keep smiling,
